Proper Trimming & Tip Preparation For The Ultra Thin Wall GS 75 True Temper® Shaft

When abrading the tip of True Temper’s new GS 75 super light steel shaft, it is recommended to use a 150-grit sanding belt with light pressure. Do not aggressively abrade the tip like normal weight steel shafts. Treat it like abrading a graphite shaft.

The GS 75 is a descending weight shaft with a wall thickness of about .0145 inches. This compares to about .0235 inches for the Dynamic shaft. When you consider these are inches in diameter, it is easy to see that circumferentially the GS 75 has a thin wall. The chrome plate is between .0005” & .00125” thick. So it does not take a lot of pressure on the belt to abrade the chrome.

Because the GS 75 is made from True Temper’s S3 technology, it has the same strength characteristics as the Dynamic Gold® shaft. Care must be taken during tip abrading not to compromise that strength.
