Playing By The Rules
USGA And R&A Rules Dictate Club Performance
Do you play with legal shafts? The Rules of Golf, Appendix II, 2b refers to the bending and twisting properties of shafts. It states “at any point along its length, the shaft must: (i) bend in such a way that the deflection is the same regardless of how the shaft is rotated about its longitudinal axis; and (ii) twist the same amount in both directions.
In other words a shaft is suppose to be symmetrical. However, due to manufacturing tolerances it is possible that you are not playing with a “legal” shaft. Learn more about how to determine if your shafts are symmetrical.
